Create3dCharacters – Maya Modeling

This is from the Modeling section besides UV Fundamentals and Croc Retopology. Wanted to focus on just the modeling as this wasnt easy to rip from the site and had to stop at some point

Highly recommend you pay the site if you find this useful. The sites layout can be strange for dealing with a ripped version. He usually has text/hotkeys/tips and more next to each clip. [Read more…]

Lynda – Maya: Retopology for Animation
English | Size: 468.5MB

Retopology is a fun combination of artistry and technique. Characters that are sculpted in programs like ZBrush or Mudbox are usually too dense to animate correctly. Retopology takes an existing sculpted model or 3D scan and optimizes the mesh for efficient geometry and more natural animation. Instructor Ryan Kittleson shows how to import the original model, plan the refined edge flow, and create new geometry, and modify the polygon mesh. [Read more…]

In this course we will discuss Maya’s General Utility Hypershade nodes

We will be discussing topics such as using the bump 2D and bump 3D nodes in order to create bump-mapping effects, using the condition node to create dynamically-changing shading networks, using the array mapper node to shade particles, using the sampler info node to create complex shading effects, just to name a few of the nodes we’ll be exploring.

In this course we will use a Maya to ZBrush workflow to build and texture a detailed battle hammer.

When working with digital assets, the ability of your computer to manipulate those assets is limited, especially when dealing with very high resolution meshes. For this reason, we use things like normal maps to simulate the high resolution detail in a way that we can more easily use. In this course, we’ll use a weathered battle hammer as an example to illustrate some of the ways you can use Maya and ZBrush together to build and sculpt high resolution props and set pieces and create useable assets. After building the base geometry and laying out UVs in Maya, we’ll go through the process of sculpting and texturing the hammer in ZBrush. We’ll finish up by applying all of that detail back in Maya to create a high quality, useable prop. [Read more…]

In this series of lessons, we will be taking you through the process of rendering your Maya scene into multiple passes, and using some advanced techniques for compositing these passes using Fusion.

We will dedicate the first portion of this course to using Render Passes in Maya to separate various elements of our scene at render time. We’ll use mental ray’s render passes, contribution maps, custom framebuffers, and render layers to create the necessary render passes for our scene. In the second portion of this course we will begin with some quick compositing similar to our Compositing 3D Renders in Fusion course, but we will quickly get into more advanced topics such as basic and advanced Depth-of-Field techniques, working with HDR data, painting fixes and chromatic aberration.

In this series of lessons, we’ll be taking a detailed look at each of Maya’s Hypershade rendering nodes.

Each video in this course is a self-contained lesson centering on one of Maya’s Hypershade nodes. This means that these lessons can be viewed in any order you wish, allowing you to jump straight to the content that is most relevant to you. Over the course of these lessons, we’ll discuss all of the attributes found in each of Maya’s material types, we’ll take a detailed look at each of Maya’s 2d and 3d texture types, we’ll explore the various general utility and color utility nodes found in Maya as well as many more of the nearly 100 maya rendering nodes found in the hypershade.
