MYA214 – Maya Lighting and Rendering in Production

MYA214 – Maya Lighting and Rendering in Production
English | Size: 4 GB
Category: Tutorial

This course, taught by Robert Harrington, will cover lighting, shading and multi-pass rendering in Maya and mental ray.
It will work directly with what Russell Dodgson will be doing this term in Nuke, using the same plates and providing all renders he wants.
We too will be dabbling in Nuke, finding out why its good for us lighters in a way that Photoshop isn’t.
This course will reflect the production reality where you are part of a pipeline.
The modelling, UV’ing and animating will have been prepared already, meaning our time is focused on getting
the lighting and shading correct and providing compositing with the render-passes they need.
Along the way we will cover tricks, theories and guidelines to help get closer to reality. [Read more…]

We will cover techniques like setting up our joints
to have a consistent orientation throughout the entire skeleton,
we will build a twist rig to fix deformations that collapse in animation,
we will learn how to create a foot rig with more banking control,
and even cover creating a robust and flexible spine rig with advanced twisting.
We will also discuss weight painting techniques that help to speed up that process,
making it less intimidating and instead more of an enjoyable experience.
By the end of this course you will learn rigging techniques that can be applied to any rig you build. [Read more…]

Digital Tutors Curve-based Facial Rigging in Maya 2011
In this course we will cover tools and techniques for curve-based facial rigging in Maya.
We will take the Facial Action Coding System approach of controls muscles to mold facial expressions. Step by step, we’ll construct a facial control rig that is robust, sufficient, and animator-friendly. We’ll learn everything from how to deform a mesh by a curves shape, to creating controls for those curves that will provide the animator with the functionality they need to create entertaining facial animations. We’ll also learn how utilize nodes and expressions to automate certain components of our control rig. By the end of this course, you’ll have the fund of knowledge you need to create your own curve-based control rigs that produce natural and appealing facial expressions [Read more…]

Pluralsight – Retopologizing Game Characters in Maya
English | Size: 3.4GB
Category: Tưtorial

Once you’ve designed your highly detailed, sculpted game character, there’s still one more step that needs to be done – retopology. In this course, Retopologizing Game Characters in Maya, you’ll take a sculpted mesh and use Maya to create a lower-resolution game-appropriate mesh that will look like your design. You’ll start by learning the basics of getting a reference model created. Then, you’ll use several polygon modeling tools to edit your base geometry to better reflect the shapes and silhouettes of your reference model. Finally, you’ll use the Quad Draw tool in Maya to create a new topology for your character completely from scratch. By the end of this course, you’ll have a much better idea about some of the options you have in Maya for creating a new, game-ready mesh from a detailed sculpt. Software required: Maya. [Read more…]

Digital Tutors – Rendering RealFlow Meshes in Maya
English | Size: 365 MB
Category: Tutorial

In this series of lessons, we will guide you through the process of using mental ray to realistically render RealFlow geometry within Maya. We will begin this process by learning how to import your mesh sequences from RealFlow into Maya and placing primary illumination sources. From there we will use the mental ray Architectural Materials to create realistic, refractive liquid, and discuss some very important settings to be aware of when using these shaders. Finally, we will create refractive caustic patterns that can add a high level of realism to the final render. Getting the proper look for your final renders will require a lot of troubleshooting and adjustments of many different attributes. Through these lessons, we will address many of these common problems that you will run into and how they can be resolved, allowing you to achieve the desired result in a much sorter amount of time. Digital Tutors – Shader Recipes – Diffraction Grating in Maya
English | Size: 127 MB
Category: Tutorial

In this series of lessons we will learn how to simulate the light-scattering appearance of a diffraction grating, which can be seen when looking at the surface of a CD or a DVD. While Maya may not have the capability to simulate a true diffraction grating, we can create a shading network that can very closely mimic the effect. We will learn how to use ramps, layered shaders, anisotropic materials, texture placement nodes, and specular lights to create a realistic rendered CD. [Read more…]
